Troops Rescue 48 Kidnap Victims After Zamfara Village Attack
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 48 people abducted during an attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The military said the rescue followed a distress call in the early hours of July 26 after armed attackers entered the community on about 40 motorcycles and tried to move residents into the bush.
According to the operation spokesman, Lt-Col Aliyu Danja, troops from Sector 2 engaged the attackers when they arrived at the village, forcing them to abandon the captives and flee.
One civilian was killed during the attack, while two people with gunshot wounds were taken to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda for treatment.
The military said patrols were later expanded around the area to reduce the risk of another attack. It also asked residents in the North-West to keep giving security agencies timely information.
The incident comes amid continued attacks and abductions in parts of Zamfara, where security forces have been under pressure to respond quickly to village raids and movement of armed groups.
