Court Declines Immediate Review Of Bello Bodejo’s ₦2bn Bail Terms

A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to immediately hear Bello Bodejo’s request to review the ₦2 billion bail conditions earlier granted to him in a money laundering case.

Bodejo, the national president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, had asked the court to vary the bail terms. Daily Post and Premium Times reported that Justice Inyang Ekwo said the application could not proceed immediately because the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had filed a counter-affidavit opposing it.

The judge said there was unlikely to be enough time to resolve the contested application before the court’s vacation. He advised the parties to take the request before a vacation judge if they wanted it heard during the recess.

The case is linked to EFCC allegations that Bodejo received $100,000 and other cash payments connected to funds traced to the Bauchi State Government. He was granted bail earlier on conditions that included two sureties, one of whom must own Abuja property valued at ₦2 billion.
