Mutfwang Apologises To Igbos Over Plateau’s Civil War Role

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has apologised to the Igbo community over the role Plateau played during the Nigerian Civil War.

Mutfwang made the appeal during a meeting with Igbo leaders from the 17 local government areas of the state at Government House, Jos.

Daily Post reported that the governor said Plateau people were deceived into joining the war under the military administration of Yakubu Gowon, who was Nigeria’s head of state during the conflict.

The governor asked the Igbo community and Plateau residents to put the past behind them and strengthen existing ties. He also praised the Igbo community for its contributions to the state’s economy and social life.

Mutfwang said Plateau and Igbo residents had become one family and should move forward together. The comments add a public reconciliation message to the state’s relationship with long-settled Igbo communities.
