Badejo-Okusanya Takes Early Lead In NBA Presidential Election

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has taken an early lead in the Nigerian Bar Association presidential election, with provisional figures showing her ahead of two other Senior Advocates of Nigeria in the race.

The figures released on Saturday showed Badejo-Okusanya with 4,860 votes, about 41.7 per cent of counted ballots. Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe followed with 3,851 votes, while Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro had between 2,824 and 2,924 votes in early returns reported by the outlets.

The result was still provisional at the time of the reports, with final figures expected after voting, collation and verification by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The election is being conducted electronically to choose the next NBA president. The office is zoned to the Western Zone under the association’s rotation arrangement, and the winner will succeed Afam Osigwe, SAN.

The vote came after earlier tension around the process. In an earlier report here, the NBA said it had invited security and anti-corruption agencies to monitor the election. On Saturday, the committee also apologised for a delay before voting got underway.
