Yoruba Lawyers Seek Postponement Of NBA Election

Yoruba lawyers under Egbe Amofin Oodua have asked the Nigerian Bar Association to postpone its national officers’ election over transparency concerns.

The call comes amid wider scrutiny of the NBA election process. In an earlier report here, NaijaTrend noted that the association said security agencies and observers had been invited to monitor the poll.

Channels TV reported that the group accused the NBA of ignoring an agreement to postpone the election and adopt NIN-based voter authentication. Punch reported that the lawyers said postponement would give room for proper voter sensitisation and a more credible process.

Isiaka Olagunju, SAN, chairman of the Governing Council of Egbe Amofin Oodua, spoke at a press conference in Ibadan. He said the group wanted stronger safeguards before the election went ahead.

The NBA election has already drawn scrutiny because of earlier disputes over the process and the technology behind the poll. The association has said it is opening the process to monitoring.
