Court Convicts Two Men For Impersonating EFCC Officers, Adjourns Sentencing

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has convicted two men for impersonating officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The convicts, Haruna Mamuda and Sadiq Umar, pleaded guilty to charges linked to falsely presenting themselves as EFCC officers. The charges said the offences happened in March 2026.

Prosecutors said the men conspired with Salifu Olije Mustapha, who is standing trial separately, and that Umar also used the false identity to defraud members of the public.

After the guilty pleas, prosecution counsel R. U. Adagba asked the court to convict them. Defence lawyers pleaded for leniency, saying the men had shown remorse and had cooperated with investigators.

Justice Zubairu adjourned sentencing until July 22, 2026, and ordered that the convicts remain in EFCC custody.
