Parents Wait At LAUTECH To Receive Rescued Oyo Schoolchildren

Parents and relatives of the rescued Oyo pupils and teachers gathered at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso on Tuesday, waiting to receive their children and wards after weeks of captivity.

The victims were taken to the hospital for medical checks and psychological support after their release. Punch published photos showing families seated at the facility while they waited for the handover.

The group includes 39 pupils and seven teachers, including a principal. They were abducted on May 15 when gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, L.A. Primary School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esiele, all in Oriire Local Government Area.

Vanguard reported that the victims were released on Friday, July 10, after a security operation involving the military, police and intelligence agencies. The Presidency said some of the attackers were killed and eight others arrested.

Governor Seyi Makinde received the rescued pupils and teachers on Monday and said their return was a relief for the state.
