Police Arrest Adeniyi Adeyemi Over PFIPC Case

Police have arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the disputed head of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant against him.

Reports from several outlets said Adeyemi was picked up in Osun State on Tuesday after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered security agencies to arrest and produce him in court on September 30.

Channels TV reported that Force spokesperson Okokon Iniedu confirmed the arrest by a team of the Intelligence Response Team. Premium Times also reported that police confirmed the arrest after the court issued the warrant.

Adeyemi was expected to take his plea on an eight-count charge linked to alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation. The charges include allegations that he forged appointment documents and falsely presented himself as director-general of the PFIPC.

Daily Trust reported that Adeyemi had earlier said he was not hiding from law enforcement but feared for his life. Daily Post also reported fresh claims by Omoyele Sowore, who called for a wider investigation into the PFIPC allegations.
