Nigeria Oil Output Hits 74-Month High, Beats OPEC Quota

Nigeria’s crude oil production rose to its highest level in more than six years in June, with output beating the country’s OPEC quota after four straight months of growth.

Figures released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission showed average crude oil production at 1.56 million barrels per day in June 2026. Condensate output added 0.18 million barrels per day, taking total crude oil and condensate production to 1,735,398 barrels per day.

The commission said the crude figure was 104 per cent of Nigeria’s 1.5 million barrels per day quota under the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. Excluding condensates, the June average was Nigeria’s strongest crude production level since April 2020, a 74-month high.

Production also improved from May, when combined crude and condensate output averaged about 1.7 million barrels per day. The June peak reached 1.89 million barrels per day, which the regulator said showed Nigeria could move closer to 2 million barrels per day if operations remain stable.

NUPRC linked the increase to steadier production across most oil assets and the absence of major pipeline outages during the period. It said better uptime and crude evacuation helped lift output after years in which theft, vandalism and operational disruptions hurt production.

The June figures matter for government revenue because oil earnings remain a major source of foreign exchange and public income. Sustained output near or above quota would give Abuja more room in budget planning, although the gains still depend on prices, security around pipelines and producers’ ability to keep facilities running.
