Troops Kill Two Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists In Kebbi Ambush
Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists during an operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
Daily Post and Punch reported that the operation took place on June 27 after intelligence indicated that the suspects were planning an attack on Sabarumawa community.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, said troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 moved to the area after receiving the information.
According to both reports, the troops set a tactical ambush along the route the suspected terrorists were expected to use. The suspects were engaged when they approached the ambush position.
Two suspects were killed in the exchange, while others fled into the surrounding forest. No military casualty was reported in the source accounts.
The troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, 143 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one motorcycle from the scene.
Danja said the operation was part of efforts to stop armed groups from moving through communities in the North-West and to prevent attacks before they reach civilian targets.
The Lakurawa threat has drawn attention in parts of Kebbi and neighbouring areas because of the group’s movement around rural routes and border communities. Security agencies have repeatedly said intelligence-led operations are needed to disrupt such cells before they strike.
For residents around Sabarumawa, the latest operation will be watched for whether it reduces pressure on communities that have faced repeated threats from armed groups.
