OOUTH Resident Doctors Suspend Warning Strike After Ogun Govt Assurance
Resident doctors at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, have suspended their 10-day warning strike after the Ogun State Government promised to pay their professional allowance by July 31, 2026.
Vanguard and Punch reported that the Association of Resident Doctors at OOUTH reached the decision after an emergency congress held on Wednesday at the association’s lounge in Sagamu.
The association’s president, Dr John Omotoso, said the decision followed meetings with top Ogun government officials and the state leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association.
Vanguard reported that the meeting was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, the Head of Service, Olanrewaju Iskeel Saka, and Ogun NMA leaders.
Omotoso directed members to resume work by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, after the doctors reviewed the government’s assurances on the allowance dispute.
The association also fixed an Emergency General Meeting for August 1, 2026, to assess whether the government had met the payment commitment and to decide its next step.
The doctors began the warning strike on Tuesday over unpaid revised professional and specialist allowances, delayed residency training funds and welfare complaints.
Other grievances listed in the reports included manpower shortages, long working hours, security breaches, poor call rooms, inadequate accommodation and concerns over call meals for resident doctors.
The association warned against victimisation of members who joined the strike and asked members to report any harassment to its leadership.
