The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has approved fresh fuel import permits for selected marketers for the third quarter of 2026.

Vanguard reported that the approvals cover Premium Motor Spirit and Automotive Gas Oil for the July-to-September period. Punch also reported the permits, citing regulatory and industry sources.

The marketers named in the reports include AA Rano, AYM Shafa, Bono Energy, Matrix Energy, Nipco and Pinnacle Oil. Vanguard said the approvals were granted as concerns grew over domestic supply levels.

Punch reported that AA Rano and Matrix Energy each received approval to import 180,000 metric tonnes of petrol, while Pinnacle was allocated 150,000 metric tonnes and AYM Shafa 120,000 metric tonnes.

For diesel, Punch and Vanguard reported approvals for AYM Shafa and Pinnacle, with AYM Shafa listed at 60,000 metric tonnes and Pinnacle at 45,000 metric tonnes.

The approvals come as Nigeria tries to balance rising local refining capacity with the need to prevent fuel shortages in the domestic market.
