Eight Killed As Farmers, Herders Clash In Kebbi, Police Say
Eight people have been killed after a clash between farmers and herders in Gulma town, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, police have confirmed.
Punch and Daily Post reported that the violence began after a herder allegedly stabbed a farmer to death on his farmland, triggering reprisal attacks on nearby Fulani settlements.
The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the clash occurred at about 3 p.m. on Monday and that security operatives intervened to contain the situation.
Usman said eight people lost their lives, while four injured persons were rescued by security personnel, treated at a medical facility and later discharged.
The police said normalcy had been restored in the community and that security personnel had been deployed to prevent further violence.
Daily Post also cited a source who said the dispute began after a cow was allegedly injured while the farmer was trying to chase animals away from his farmland. Police urged residents to avoid self-help and channel grievances through lawful authorities.
