Ekiti Voters Head To Polls As Oyebanji Seeks Second Term
Voters in Ekiti State are going to the polls to elect a governor in an off-cycle contest that is being closely watched ahead of the 2027 general election cycle.
Daily Trust reported that the state has 1,059,360 registered voters, with 1,028,929 people who collected their Permanent Voter Cards expected to vote across 2,445 polling units in 16 local government areas.
Channels TV reported that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is seeking a second term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, while other parties are fielding challengers in the race.
Premium Times listed the contest as a battle involving Oyebanji and other candidates, including Oluwole Oluyede of the PDP, Oluwadare Bejide of the ADC and Opeyemi Falegan of Accord.
INEC officials and security agencies said arrangements had been made for election materials, accreditation and polling-unit security. The conduct of the poll is expected to draw attention because it is one of the major electoral tests before the next nationwide elections.
