Kebbi police say they have made arrests linked to suspected Lakurawa, Mamudawa and Boko Haram-related activity during recent security operations in the state.

Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia announced the arrests while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.

Daily Post reported 12 suspected criminals in the latest briefing, while Premium Times reported at least 11 persons arrested in operations within the last month. Because the figures differ, the safest reading is that police announced multiple arrests across separate cases.

Hadejia said three men were being investigated as suspected Mamudawa and Boko Haram elements after they were intercepted around Illo in Bagudo Local Government Area.

Police alleged that preliminary findings linked the suspects to movements around the time gunmen attacked and killed three Federal Road Safety Corps officials in Illo on June 4.

The command also announced arrests connected to alleged banditry around SODA Forest and suspected support for Lakurawa fighters, including alleged supply of food and drinks.

Premium Times reported that police said a pump-action rifle and three live cartridges were recovered in one of the operations.

Hadejia said investigations were ongoing and that suspects would be prosecuted if found culpable.

All the people named by police remain suspects at this stage. The allegations have not been tested in court.
