Abuja Protesters Demand Rescue of Abducted Oyo Pupils, Teachers
Protesters blocked a major road in Abuja on Saturday to demand urgent action over worsening kidnappings, with particular focus on the abducted pupils and teachers from Oyo State.
Daily Trust reported that the demonstrators disrupted traffic while pressing the Federal Government to intensify rescue efforts. The Whistler also reported that protesters picketed an Abuja bridge and demanded the rescue of the Oyo teachers and pupils.
The protest adds a fresh public-pressure angle to the Oyo school abduction story, which has continued to draw national attention. NaijaTrend earlier reported related teacher protests over the Ogbomoso school abductions here.
The Abuja action was not just another general protest over insecurity. Its immediate trigger was the fate of abducted schoolchildren and staff, a theme that has continued to stir anger among parents, teachers and youth groups as the school-safety crisis spreads across communities.
Video and eyewitness reports from the scene showed a crowd gathering around the road and bridge area, forcing motorists to slow down as protesters made their demand public. Security personnel were also visible around the protest scene.
The demonstrators linked the case to broader insecurity, saying repeated school attacks and road kidnappings had left families anxious and communities exposed. The protest came after several recent reports of attacks on travellers, students and rural communities across different parts of the country.
Although the action caused traffic disruption, the central demand was clear: authorities should secure the release of the abducted schoolchildren and staff and provide stronger protection for schools and vulnerable routes.
