UK Launches £15m Growth Programme to Support Nigeria’s Economy
The United Kingdom has launched a £15 million growth programme aimed at supporting Nigeria’s economic reforms and attracting new investment.
ICIR reported that the announcement was made during a visit to Nigeria by the UK Minister for Africa and International Development, Baroness Jenny Chapman. The programme is expected to run over three years.
The initiative is focused on improving investor confidence, reducing regulatory bottlenecks and supporting policy changes that can help businesses operate more easily in Nigeria.
Reports by TheCable and Guardian Nigeria also described the plan as part of a wider UK-Nigeria economic partnership designed to support growth and investment.
During the visit, Chapman held talks with officials including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele. The discussions covered economic cooperation, investment and areas where both countries can work together.
The UK also announced plans to deepen collaboration in digital transformation through a regulatory innovation programme expected to operate across five states.
The announcement comes as Nigeria continues to push reforms aimed at drawing private capital, improving public finance and creating a clearer operating environment for businesses.
For businesses, the programme will be watched for how quickly it can translate into simpler rules, stronger investor confidence and practical support for firms seeking to expand.
The UK remains one of Nigeria’s major trade and investment partners, and both governments have repeatedly tied economic cooperation to jobs, enterprise development and private-sector growth.
