Buni Appoints Yerima Ibn Mahmud as New Emir of Ngazargamu
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the acting Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Goje, following the death of the late emir, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam.
Daily Trust reported that Geidam died on Tuesday in Egypt and was buried on Friday in Damaturu. Daily Post also reported that the appointment followed the late emir’s passing after a protracted illness.
Before his elevation, Ibn Mahmud served as Yobe State Commissioner for Livestock Development. He also held the traditional title of Turakin Ngazargamu for 16 years and previously served as a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly.
The state government described the new emir as a public servant with years of experience in governance, policy work and community service. Buni urged him to use that experience to strengthen peace, unity and economic growth across the emirate.
The governor also called on residents of Ngazargamu Emirate to support the new traditional ruler as he begins his reign.
The appointment keeps attention on Yobe’s traditional institutions at a time when state authorities are leaning on local leadership structures to maintain community stability and development.
