Kano LG Revokes All Private Schools Licenses After Teacher Allegedly Rapes Pupils
—
The Ungogo Local Government Council of Kano State has revoked the licenses of all private schools within its jurisdiction following allegations that a teacher at one of the schools raped four female pupils.
Education Councillor Abdullahi Wakili announced the decision after a review meeting aimed at improving school administration and addressing security and moral challenges in the area.
Local Government Chairman Tijjani Amiru Bilyaminu directed that all private school owners must appear before a screening committee for fresh evaluation before their licenses can be reconsidered.
The drastic action follows the closure of Al-Hadeed Private School in Inusawa, Ungogo, after a teacher identified as “Uncle Kamal” was accused of sexually abusing four underage female pupils from the same family.
The suspect has been arraigned before a magistrate court on rape charges. The court ordered his remand and adjourned the case to June 9, 2026.
“Our schools must be safe havens, not places of fear,” Wakili said.
The decision has sent shockwaves through the community, with parents and education stakeholders applauding the council’s decisive action. The council said the fresh evaluation process would ensure that only schools meeting approved standards of safety and moral conduct would be allowed to operate.
