Dangote Refinery Cuts Petrol and Diesel Prices Again
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has announced a fresh reduction in the ex-depot prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), better known as petrol, and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), popularly called diesel.
Second Price Cut in Weeks
This marks the second price cut in weeks as the refinery increases domestic supply capacity. The move is expected to ease pump prices across Nigeria amid ongoing fuel market adjustments.
The latest reduction follows an earlier price cut announced earlier in May 2026, as the refinery continues to ramp up production and optimize its distribution network across the country.
Impact on Motorists
The price reductions are expected to bring relief to Nigerian motorists and businesses that depend on fuel-powered operations. Transport unions have welcomed the development, saying it should translate to lower fares for commuters if sustained.
Market analysts say the Dangote Refinery’s increasing capacity utilization is putting downward pressure on fuel prices, competing with imported products and giving marketers more flexibility in pricing.
Refinery Operations Scale Up
The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, is the largest single-train refinery in the world with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. As operations scale up, the facility is increasingly meeting domestic demand for refined petroleum products.
Industry watchers say the price cuts demonstrate the strategic importance of domestic refining capacity in stabilizing Nigeria’s fuel market and reducing dependence on imported products.
The full impact of the price reduction is expected to be felt at filling stations within the coming days as distributors adjust their retail prices accordingly.
