The Federal Government has commissioned a high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station in Abuja capable of serving more than 1,000 vehicles daily, as part of efforts to expand the use of alternative fuel in Nigeria.

The facility, located in Jahi, Abuja, was developed by Rolling Energy Limited in partnership with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF). The High Capacity CNG Daughter Booster Station has a sales capacity of 1,000 Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) per hour, supported by two CNG tube skids with a combined storage capacity of 17,000 SCM.

The station also houses a Mass Conversion Centre fitted with trained technicians and conversion kits capable of converting up to 20 vehicles and 25 tricycles to CNG daily.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the project represents another milestone in the Federal Government’s push to deepen gas utilisation and expand access to cleaner energy solutions.

“Facilities such as this are essential for building the backbone infrastructure required to support widespread CNG penetration across the country,” Ekpo said.

The minister noted that the project aligns with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) and described it as one of four strategic gas infrastructure projects being commissioned nationwide. Similar projects by Ibile Oil and Gas, Portland Energy, and Femadec are also being commissioned in Lagos and Owerri.

The initiative falls under the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas programme, which aims to leverage Nigeria’s estimated 215 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves to drive industrialisation, energy security, and economic diversification.
