The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 56,000 personnel across the country to ensure security during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

Commandant General Ahmed Audi ordered the deployment, which includes operational vehicles, ambulances, boats, and K9 units for rapid response to emergencies. The corps said the deployment aims to protect lives, property, and critical national assets and infrastructure.

NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi said all specialised tactical squads have been placed on high alert, including the Mining Marshals, Special Intelligence Squad, Crack Squad, Female Special Force, and Rapid Response Squad.

In the FCT alone, 4,000 officers have been deployed, while Delta State received 945 personnel. Zonal commanders have been directed to supervise commands within their jurisdictions and work with state commandants to ensure compliance with operational directives.

Afolabi reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to collaboration with other security agencies and urged the public to provide timely information on security threats. He warned those planning to disrupt public peace or vandalise infrastructure during the festive period to desist, stressing that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.

The massive deployment comes as millions of Nigerian Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir on Wednesday, May 27. The military had earlier issued a security advisory warning of possible Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks during the celebrations in the Northeast.
