Ooni-and-Olori-Mariam

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), announced today that his wife, Olori Mariam Ajibola Ogunwusi, has given birth to twin boys. The news, shared on the monarch’s official social media pages, sparked celebrations across Yorubaland and beyond.

Double blessing for the royal house

“To God Be All The Glory,” the Ooni wrote, thanking God for the safe delivery of both mother and children. The twin princes join the royal household at the House of Oduduwa in Ile-Ife, the spiritual home of the Yoruba people.

Olori Mariam, who married the Ooni in September 2022, is the first of the monarch’s six wives. In Yoruba culture, twins carry deep spiritual meaning — they are traditionally seen as a mark of divine favour, and their arrival is always cause for celebration.

Social media buzz

Well-wishers flooded the Ooni’s pages almost immediately. Royal births draw public attention, but twins turn that attention into something louder.

The Ooni’s personal life has been closely watched since his coronation. After a previous marriage ended, he married six wives within a three-month window in 2022, saying at the time that tradition required certain arrangements. Today’s news is a happier chapter in that story.
