Confluence University of Science and Technology in Osara, Kogi State, has expelled four students and rusticated another over offences including alleged lesbianism, physical assault, and cyber misconduct.

The sanctions came after investigations by the university’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee, with recommendations approved at the institution’s 30th Regular Senate Meeting on April 29, 2026.

According to letters signed by Deputy Registrar for Academic Affairs Eli Gbadafu, two female students — Ezekiel Precious Omeneke, a 200-level Economics student, and Aku Joy Chinyere, a 200-level Accounting student — were expelled over alleged involvement in lesbianism.

Other expulsions

Musa Abdulhakeem Onimisi, a 200-level Petroleum and Gas Engineering student, was expelled for alleged physical assault and stabbing of another student. Dominion Kolade A., a 200-level Physiotherapy student, was expelled for allegedly cloning and circulating photographs of two female students without their consent.

A fifth student, Agbakaru Kosikochukwu, a 200-level Radiography student, was rusticated for one academic session over fighting and physical assault.

University takes stand

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu commended the disciplinary committee for what he called a thorough and fair investigation process. He said the university remains committed to producing graduates with both academic excellence and good character.

The management warned students against acts that could jeopardise their academic future, stressing that rules will continue to be enforced without compromise.

Human rights groups have raised concerns about the expulsion of the two female students, arguing that same-sex conduct is a private matter and should not be a basis for dismissal from an academic institution. The university has not responded to those objections.
