Teni and Olamide have released the official video for “Zion,” and it opens in the most unexpected way: Nkem Owoh standing alone in a lush green field, butterflies swirling around him, softly whistling the song’s intro.

The video dropped on Monday, days after the audio debuted on April 24. “Zion” entered Spotify Nigeria’s Top Songs chart at number 36 on its first day, and the visuals are only adding to the momentum.

What the Video Looks Like

Directed by Creative Yute and produced by Deeyaso, the four-minute video keeps things intentionally sparse. Teni appears seated beneath a large tree in the same green field, playfully interacting with butterflies before delivering the kind of powerful, unguarded vocals she’s built her name on. Olamide brings his trademark Afro-rap energy and Yoruba rhythm without overshadowing the mood.

Nkem Owoh’s role is brief but it sticks. His soft whistle — nostalgic, quietly cinematic — sets the emotional temperature for the whole piece. For anyone who grew up watching him in classic Nollywood, the effect is immediate.

Teni has said the song was largely freestyled in the studio, which shows. The lyrics are about love as shelter: “Sometimes I wanna run away / Feeling lost mi o de mona ile / So many people judge me / But I don’t care / Zion is very far away / But when I am with you it is like holiday.”

Part of a Bigger Project

“Zion” is expected to anchor Teni’s forthcoming EP, The Wellness Package, due in May 2026. If the rest of the project matches this register, it could be one of the more interesting Afrobeats releases of the year — not the loudest, but one of the most considered.
