FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe Dragged to ICPC Over Alleged $65,000 Contract Fraud
Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory in the National Assembly, has been petitioned to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over allegations that she collected $65,000 for a contract that was never executed.
The petition, filed by a businessman, alleges that the senator leveraged her senatorial office to facilitate the alleged fraud. According to the petitioner, the money — approximately ₦100 million at current exchange rates — was handed over in exchange for contract facilitation that never materialised.
What the Petition Claims
The businessman alleges that Senator Kingibe took the funds under the representation that she would use her position to secure a government contract for him. Instead, the petition says, no such contract was delivered, the money was not returned, and the senator has been unresponsive to demands for accountability.
The ICPC petition is a formal step that triggers the commission’s investigative machinery. It does not automatically result in charges or an arraignment — but it does place the senator under the scrutiny of one of Nigeria’s primary anti-corruption agencies.
Senator Kingibe has not yet publicly responded to the allegations. NaijaTrend will update this story as the situation develops.
Who Is Ireti Kingibe?
Ireti Kingibe is the senator representing the FCT senatorial district in the 10th National Assembly. She is the daughter of Baba Gana Kingibe, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Moshood Abiola’s running mate in the disputed 1993 presidential election. She has maintained a relatively prominent profile in Abuja political circles.
If the ICPC proceeds with an investigation and findings support the petitioner’s claims, it would represent another significant accountability action against a sitting National Assembly member — a rare but increasingly visible trend in Nigeria’s anti-corruption landscape.
