Nigeria’s aviation sector is feeling the full squeeze of an acute Jet A1 fuel shortage — and passengers are about to feel it too. Air Peace, one of the country’s largest carriers, has warned of likely flight delays at multiple terminals and confirmed a significant cut to one of its flagship international routes.

In a statement over the weekend, the airline said its Abuja-London service has been reduced to three weekly flights, down from full frequency, until July 1, 2026. The airline said the move is necessary to “maintain the highest standards of safety and operational reliability” amid the ongoing fuel supply crunch.

“At this time, fuel availability remains limited, which has impacted scheduled departures,” Air Peace said, apologising to passengers and assuring them the airline is “actively engaging with relevant partners to resolve the situation as swiftly as possible.”

Government Under Pressure

The fuel crisis is not new, but it keeps deepening. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo and Finance Minister Wale Oyedele have been meeting in Abuja to discuss emergency measures — proposals include tax reductions and fuel supply guarantees. Several airlines have warned they cannot sustain operations at current Jet A1 prices and availability levels.

For passengers with Abuja-London plans in the coming weeks, confirm your schedule directly with Air Peace before heading to the airport. Full frequency is expected to resume from July 1, 2026.
