Baze University in Abuja received two new single-engine training aircraft from Austria on Friday for its planned aviation school, the university’s officials said at the reception.

The aircraft landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and received a water-cannon salute, Voice of Nigeria reported. The university says they will be used for practical flight training.

Pro-Chancellor Datti Baba-Ahmed said the school plans to train at least 600 people in areas including pilot training, air traffic control, air rescue and firefighting, subject to approvals from the relevant regulators.

The university is developing the aviation-school site in Bwari, Abuja. Baba-Ahmed said the infrastructure was about 50 per cent complete.

Retired Air Vice Marshal Aliyu Bello, the aviation-school coordinator, said the aircraft would support hands-on training alongside ground-school instruction at a site that is to include a runway, hangar, terminal building, laboratories and simulation centres. He said the National Universities Commission had approved Aviation Management and Aerospace Engineering programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.
