The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it has appealed the judgment invalidating Atiku Abubakar’s presidential nomination and its David Mark-led leadership, and has asked INEC to await the appeal.
Presidential campaign spokesperson Phrank Shaibu announced the filings in a statement on Friday. He said the party had also applied for a stay of execution and notified INEC that day.
The stay application has not been determined, Shaibu said. Filing an appeal or seeking a stay does not, by itself, suspend the judgment.
ARISE News reported that it obtained copies of the notice of appeal and stay application transmitted to INEC. The court documents themselves were not available for this report.
The move follows Thursday’s ruling against the ADC leadership and presidential nomination by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Shaibu said the campaign would continue while the party pursues its legal challenge. No decision on the stay application was reported.
