Delta State has approved a N4bn programme under which 15,000 residents are expected to receive N250,000 each to support small businesses or start new ventures.

The grants account for N3.75bn of the allocation. The remaining N250m is intended for administration, training and other implementation costs.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information Charles Aniagwu announced the approval on Friday after a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba, Punch reported.

Aniagwu said the programme would run through the Delta State Social Investment Programme in the coming weeks, drawing beneficiaries from all 25 local government areas.

He said the governor had directed officials to establish clear eligibility criteria so that the grants reached vulnerable residents. The intended recipients include small business owners facing financial difficulties and aspiring entrepreneurs seeking start-up capital.

Punch’s report did not give an application opening date or set out the final eligibility rules.
