Onuachu and Nwakaeme Fire Trabzonspor into Turkish Cup Semifinal
Nigerian internationals Paul Onuachu and Anthony Nwakaeme both scored in Trabzonspor’s 3-1 penalty shootout win over Samsunspor to reach the Turkish Cup semifinal, but the real hero was goalkeeper André Onana, who saved three penalties.
The match ended 0-0 after extra time before Trabzonspor prevailed in the shootout, with Onana’s three saves proving decisive.
Onana steals the show
Onana, on loan from Manchester United, produced a standout performance between the posts. His three penalty saves sent Trabzonspor players swarming him in wild celebrations at the final whistle, with the highlight reel quickly going viral.
For Onuachu, his shootout goal takes him to 22 goals for the season — and he has now scored in 11 consecutive matches across all competitions.
Cup run continues
Nwakaeme, the veteran Nigerian forward, has been a consistent performer in Turkish football and added another composed penalty to help seal the win. The semifinal berth keeps Trabzonspor’s silverware hopes alive in a season where their league form has been inconsistent.
