Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI, Sector 2, have repelled a coordinated midnight terrorist attack on Kukareta community in Yobe State, killing at least 24 insurgents and recovering a large cache of weapons.

The attack began shortly after midnight on April 23 and lasted until about 3:00 a.m., according to a military statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.

Weapons haul

Recovered items include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns, two PKT anti-aircraft guns, three RPG launchers, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.

Two soldiers were wounded in action but have been stabilised. One reinforcing armoured tank sustained damage with all its tyres blown out during the engagement.

Ongoing operations

Troops are conducting exploitation operations along the insurgents’ withdrawal routes, where blood trails and abandoned medical supplies suggest further enemy casualties beyond the 24 confirmed dead.

Operation HADIN KAI has intensified its offensive across the northeast in recent months, particularly in Borno and Yobe states. The Kukareta repulse demonstrates improved intelligence and rapid response capability in a region where surprise attacks have historically caught communities and security forces off guard.
