The military says troops destroyed Lakurawa camps in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, during a clearance operation on Thursday, October 15.
Troops recovered weapons and five motorcycles after fighting members of the armed group, according to a statement by Operation Fansan Yamma. The military said several fighters were killed but gave no precise total.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operation’s media information officer, said Sector 2 troops advanced through areas around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest before encountering the fighters.
Danja said the fighters abandoned their positions and fled deeper into the forest during the gun battle. Troops pursued them and subsequently destroyed camps and support structures, the statement said.
The command said troops remained in the area and were continuing clearance operations. It urged residents to provide timely information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
