The Lagos Waste Management Authority has sealed more than 25 buildings, including a Mobil filling station, along Ago Palace Way in Okota over alleged environmental violations.
The Sunday operation also involved removing accumulated refuse from road medians and areas around bridge abutments. LAWMA said illegal dumping had become a recurring problem at those locations.
Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin led the exercise, which deployed compactor trucks, a payloader, tipper trucks and street sweepers.
In a statement on X reported by Premium Times, LAWMA said some of the sealed premises had illegal stalls on road setbacks or accommodated street traders whose activities contributed to littering and indiscriminate waste disposal.
The authority also reported arrests of cart pushers for alleged illegal dumping. Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit, known as the Taskforce, and the Kick Against Indiscipline team supported the operation.
Gbadegesin said enforcement would cover illegal street trading and those who patronised traders in prohibited locations. He said such activities obstructed movement and contributed to environmental damage.
Officials educated residents and traders on waste disposal during the exercise. LAWMA urged them to use approved collection channels and said waste evacuation and enforcement operations would continue.
