The Nigeria Democratic Congress says an error caused the omission of its Kano governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo, from the candidate list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday.

The party has urged supporters to remain calm while it engages the commission over the omission. Its officials maintain that Gwarzo met the submission requirements.

The party’s public relations officer, Yusif Fasaha, said INEC had told the party that a computer problem was responsible and would be corrected. He said a list containing Gwarzo’s name was expected by Monday, according to Premium Times’ account of his statement to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Vanguard reported that the name of Gwarzo’s running mate, Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, was also missing. It quoted Kwankwasiyya Caucus secretary Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata as saying the omission resulted from an error in entering the candidates’ details.

Kofarmata said Gwarzo completed registration within INEC’s stipulated period and that the party submitted his details through the commission’s online portal.

The Kano list contained 17 governorship candidates and their running mates, Premium Times reported. Governor Abba Yusuf was listed as the APC candidate, with Murtala Sule-Garo as his running mate.

NaijaTrend reported the omissions of other candidates in Gombe and Ogun, and the Rivers listing, here.
