Singer and filmmaker Banky W says he is serving as an associate pastor and global ambassador at Union Church in the United States, alongside teaching and leadership duties at Union College.

He announced the roles in an Instagram statement on Thursday, saying ministry would sit alongside his work in music, film and business rather than replace it.

Olubankole Wellington, known professionally as Banky W, credited Union Church leaders Stephen and Zai Chandler with supporting his spiritual growth, family and work.

“I’m still a filmmaker, musician, and entrepreneur,” he said, adding that he was also working in pastoral ministry and teaching.

He described travelling between Lagos and the Washington metropolitan area as demanding but said the opportunity to serve in both institutions had been worthwhile.

Banky W also reflected on his unsuccessful bid for the Eti-Osa House of Representatives seat in 2023. He contested under the Peoples Democratic Party and lost to the Labour Party’s Thaddeus Attah.

He said the election loss left him heartbroken and prompted him to seek direction on whether to continue in politics, entertainment, business or ministry.

The statement marked what he called his first “Unionversary”. He said more work was still planned on the business, film and music fronts.
