The Nigerian Army says troops have rescued three abducted people in Anambra State and raided a suspected kidnapping hideout, recovering firearms and ammunition.

Troops of the 185 Battalion under Operation UDO KA worked with the Anambra Vigilante Group. The victims had been abducted around Osakwa in Ihiala Local Government Area, according to the Army’s account reported by Punch and Daily Post.

The Army said a separate operation on October 1 led to the arrest of Sunday Obi, whom it identified as a suspected kidnapper. Information obtained during questioning reportedly led troops to a camp at Abator in Ogbaru Local Government Area, across the Isieke waterside.

Troops and vigilantes crossed the waterways in canoes to reach the hideout. The Army said the suspects exchanged fire with the team before fleeing with gunshot wounds.

The reported recoveries included two AK-47 rifles with magazines, three pump-action guns and three locally fabricated Dane guns. The Army also listed 62 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 149 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and two cartridges.

Materials suspected to be intended for making improvised explosive devices were also recovered, alongside a solar generator, a power bank, a car battery, two motorcycle batteries, two solar panels and two mobile phones.

The Army said follow-up operations were underway to find the fleeing suspects, their collaborators and people supplying the group.
