Kano State says it has arrested more than 380 suspects and secured over 230 convictions in the first two months of a crackdown on drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Governor Abba Yusuf gave the figures on Thursday during his Independence Day address at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano.

He said the state created the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in July 2026 and issued an executive order to strengthen action against illicit substances, thuggery and related crimes.

The governor also said the task force had dismantled drug joints and criminal hideouts across the state since it was set up.

The reports said Yusuf appealed to young people to reject drugs, violence and criminality, and called the campaign a shared responsibility for government, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, communities, parents and citizens.
