A suspected rabid dog has bitten 18 people in Garko Local Government Area of Kano State, prompting a search by the Nigerian Forest Security Service.

The NFSS said the dog first attacked 11 people in Garko town before moving to nearby communities, where seven more people were bitten in Raba, Kadage, Gurjiya and Dausai.

The Kano command said two other dogs were also suspected to have been infected with rabies, raising concern that the disease could spread among residents and animals.

Personnel led by the Divisional Forest Officer, Auwalu Muhammad, were deployed to the affected communities to find and neutralise the suspected infected dogs. The command urged residents to report stray dogs or animals showing signs of rabies to security agencies.
