African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has returned to Nigeria from the United States to resume his 2027 campaign.
Sowore announced the return in a statement on Sunday, saying he had been away for more than 20 months after arrests, detention, travel restrictions and the seizure of his international passport by Nigerian security agencies.
He said he used his time in the United States to meet Nigerians in the diaspora, supporters and activists, and to continue advocacy for voting rights for Nigerians living outside the country.
Sowore said he was expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos before proceeding to Abuja.
He also said he would continue to attend court proceedings in a cybercrime case filed against him by the Department of State Services in 2025.
