Black Market screening draws 51,000 viewers to Guinness record in Lagos
Nollywood film Black Market has set a Guinness World Record after 51,000 qualifying viewers attended its screening at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.
The record was confirmed after the Saturday screening, with Guinness World Records recognising the qualifying attendance for the largest film screening in a single location.
Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat announced that 64,000 people attended the event, but Channels Television reported that Guinness World Records used 51,000 as the qualifying figure based on viewers who stayed from the beginning to the end of the movie.
Punch reported that the event drew more than 51,000 people to watch the crime thriller, while FilmOne, the distributor, described the crowd as a world-record audience for a single movie screening.
The screening was organised by FilmOne Studios, Rixel Studios and Signet Ring, with organisers celebrating the feat after the announcement at the venue.
