Tenth woman found dead in South Africa’s Ekurhuleni killings
South African police have found another woman dead in Tembisa, bringing to 10 the number of women found dead in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, over the past two months.
The body was discovered on Saturday in the Tembisa township. Police did not immediately release the victim’s identity or further details, but said crime-scene officials were at the location.
Punch and Vanguard reported that the nine earlier victims were mostly women in their 20s and 30s. Some were found stripped of their clothes and showed signs of sexual assault.
The first victim, a 37-year-old woman, was found on July 15. Police arrested a suspect two days later. Two women, aged 31 and 38, were later arrested in connection with the ninth victim and charged on Monday.
Police have not said whether all the deaths are connected. The latest discovery follows an earlier Nigerian safety alert after the ninth woman was found dead in the same wider area; NaijaTrend reported that alert here.
