Lagos police begin disciplinary proceedings over inspector’s anti-Obi video

The Lagos State Police Command has begun disciplinary proceedings against Inspector Osumah Frank over remarks about Peter Obi in a video circulating online.

Command spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi identified the officer in a statement on Friday and said his comments did not represent the views of the command or the Nigeria Police Force.

Premium Times reported that the video showed Frank seated at the front of a moving public transport vehicle, dismissing Obi’s chances in the 2027 presidential election and saying an Igbo person could not become president. The police statement did not detail those remarks.

The command described the inspector’s comments as “careless, inappropriate and uncultured remarks” and said disciplinary action would follow police regulations.

Lagos Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai said officers must treat members of the public with respect and maintain discipline. He warned that the command would not tolerate conduct that damaged the force’s reputation or weakened public confidence in it.
