States and FCT generated N5.15tn IGR in 2025, NBS says
Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory generated N5.15tn in internally generated revenue in 2025, according to new figures from the National Bureau of Statistics.
The total was 40.93 per cent higher than the N3.65tn recorded in 2024. Lagos remained far ahead of other states, generating N1.77tn, or about a third of the combined state and FCT figure.
Rivers followed with N428.42bn, while Enugu posted N406.77bn. The FCT recorded N356.34bn and Ogun generated N252.36bn, putting all five jurisdictions above the N250bn mark.
Daily Post listed Delta at N202.49bn, Edo at N132.21bn, Oyo at N103.25bn, Kano at N102.26bn and Akwa Ibom at N100.80bn. At the bottom of its table were Ebonyi with N17.18bn and Yobe with N16.01bn.
The NBS report covered Pay-As-You-Earn, direct assessment, road taxes, stamp duties, capital gains tax, withholding tax, other taxes, local government revenue and income generated by ministries, departments and agencies.
The figures underline the wide gap between states with large tax bases and those still heavily dependent on federal allocations. They also show why state-level revenue collection is becoming a bigger issue in budget planning.
