One child missing after Anambra school bus flood rescue

One schoolchild is still missing after a school bus was caught in floodwater in Awka, Anambra State, during heavy rain on Tuesday.

Police said seven schoolchildren and two adults were rescued after the bus became trapped around Ring Road in Agu Awka. Daily Post gave the same nine-person rescue count, while Channels Television reported that six children had been rescued as emergency teams continued their response.

The Anambra State Police Command said the incident happened in the early hours of September 22, 2026. Emergency officials from NEMA and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency were also involved in the rescue and response operation.

Channels Television reported that local officials at the scene said the situation had been brought under control. Punch identified the scene as a flood incident involving a school bus and said the missing child had not yet been found.

The search for the missing child continued after the rescued children and adults were taken out of the floodwater.
