Troops Rescue 33 Kidnapped Passengers In Zamfara
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescue followed information received on Saturday about commuters taken around the Magazu area of Tsafe. Troops and police personnel moved to the area and confronted the abductors as they were taking the passengers away.
Punch, Vanguard and Daily Trust all reported the rescue, citing a statement by Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
Danja said troops from Sector 2 and police personnel deployed in Tsafe acted after credible information reached them in the late afternoon of August 8. He said the armed group was already moving the passengers to an unknown destination when security forces caught up with them.
The troops engaged the attackers and forced them to abandon the victims in nearby bushes. Danja said all 33 abducted passengers were secured after the encounter, and the troops began a wider search of the area.
The theatre commander commended the soldiers for their response and said the operation would keep working to protect civilians and major transport routes across the North-West.
