Academic staff at three Lagos State-owned universities have begun an indefinite strike after a 14-day ultimatum to the state government expired without a settlement.

The affected institutions are Lagos State University, Lagos State University of Education and Lagos State University of Science and Technology.

The strike was announced by the ASUU-LASU Joint Campus Group in a statement signed by branch leaders from the three universities. The union said the government had not produced a satisfactory response after the ultimatum issued on August 31.

ASUU said its main demand is the full domestication and implementation of the December 2025 ASUU-FGN agreement across Lagos State-owned universities. The demands include academic tools allowance and welfare provisions for serving and retired lecturers.

Punch reported that the union said the strike would continue until meaningful engagement led to a satisfactory resolution. Daily Trust also reported the action as an indefinite strike over salary and retirement benefits.
