Nyesom Wike speaking during a media briefing.

Nyesom Wike has said his Rainbow Coalition is meant to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, not to work for the All Progressives Congress as a party.

The Federal Capital Territory minister made the clarification after APC governors warned against parallel political structures that could weaken the president’s 2027 campaign. NaijaTrend earlier reported the governors’ position here.

In a statement issued by his aide Lere Olayinka, Wike said he had not promised that the Peoples Democratic Party would avoid governorship, National Assembly or state assembly contests in 2027. He said his commitment was to Tinubu’s presidential re-election.

Premium Times reported that Wike described the coalition as a platform for people across different political parties who support Tinubu. Punch and Daily Trust also reported his argument that politics is local and that governors facing problems in their states should solve them without using Tinubu’s re-election campaign as cover.

Wike said supporters should first focus on the presidential election and then return to contests in their own states after Tinubu is re-elected.
