The Academic Staff Union of Universities at Sokoto State University has given the Sokoto State Government two weeks to address unpaid entitlements and other agreements or face industrial action.

The ultimatum followed a congress of the SSU branch held on Tuesday, September 8, where members reviewed earlier resolutions and the government’s response to their demands.

The union said the unresolved issues include earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, salary shortfalls and implementation of agreements reached with the state government.

ASUU’s branch leaders said the warning was meant to give the government a final opportunity to act before the union takes further steps.

The threat adds to pressure on state-owned universities, where staff unions have repeatedly complained about funding, welfare and the implementation of agreements with state governments.
