Bandit Attacks Force Residents To Leave 15 Katsina Villages

Renewed bandit attacks have forced residents out of at least 15 villages in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State, with communities in nearby Funtua and Bakori also reporting worsening insecurity.

Residents said movement has become dangerous, farming has been disrupted and cattle raids have continued despite the presence of security personnel. The reports point to another wave of displacement in southern Katsina, where rural communities have faced repeated attacks.

Daily Post and Daily Trust both reported the same account, citing residents who spoke to the BBC. One Funtua resident said bandits recently entered parts of the town, seized cattle and escaped, while another account said security personnel exchanged gunfire with attackers in the MTD area.

In Bakori, residents listed communities including Kakumi, Sabon Layi, Gidan Jaura and Garanguzai among areas where people remain afraid to travel between settlements. The reports said attacks and threats have restricted everyday movement and hurt farming and other local economic activity.

The two reports did not include a fresh response from the police or the state government.
